10 Best Sustainable Bedding Brands For 2025
AlsWell Blog editors endorse products we’ve personally researched, tested, and genuinely love. Learn more about our methodology and business model here.
Our editors have slept on nontoxic and organic bedding brands for weeks and provided their notes on safety, comfort, ease of care, and long-lasting durability.
There’s nothing sweeter than a good night’s sleep — and a comfortable bed situation is key in getting restorative rest. Natural, nontoxic bedding can help with that, plus it’s made from materials that are good for you and the planet.
The truth is that bedding made from synthetic materials can negatively impact your health, the environment, and the factory workers who make them. Polyester is a good example: It isn’t very breathable, it releases microplastics when washed, and its manufacturing process is highly polluting. Those aren’t exactly thoughts you want to dwell on as you’re trying to drift off. 😴
Why choose organic bedding?
Comfort is the first consideration when shopping for organic bedding. “Organic fibers are breathable, come in a variety of weights and weaves, and can be temperature regulating,” says Whitney Thornburg, design director of Coyuchi, an organic bedding brand, “all of which can help you create a personal, customizable bed for a great night’s sleep.” Thornburg recommends staying away from synthetic fabrics because of their reduced breathability.
Not only does organic bedding make for better, more comfortable sleep, but it’s also essential for avoiding exposure to dangerous chemicals. Manufacturing processes emit VOCs, or volatile organic compounds, chemicals that diffuse into the air and can be toxic to human health. Synthetic fabrics like polyester and microfiber are derived from petroleum, and their manufacturing process is a nasty business (literally). Production of these synthetic materials can also make factory workers ill from toxic chemicals. You’ll want to consider healthier bedding to benefit your health and those involved in creating the bedding, too.
Finally, organic fabrics tend to use less water and energy in their production. And with fabrics like organic cotton and linen, you can be sure that damaging chemicals like pesticides don’t seep into the earth or your bedtime routine.
What should you look for when shopping?
Keep an eye out for third-party certifications. Thornburg likes GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), which ensures that at least 95% of a product’s materials are certified organic, since “it also checks EVERY step of the supply chain to ensure these standards are followed, from fiber to spinner to dyer to weaver.” (The GOTS 7.0 certification also includes materials that contain no PFAS).
Other certifications to look for include Oeko-Tex Standard 100 which means a textile is free of 100 commonly used toxic substances and allergens (the finished product only, though, not the whole supply chain). A GreenGuard certification ensures a product won’t emit VOCs at a harmful level, Fair Trade Certified means factories have safe working conditions, and Made Safe ensures a product is free of 6,500 banned or potentially hazardous substances.
We’ve compiled a full list of the third-party certifications that we keep an eye on when we’re shopping sustainable and nontoxic bedding brands. And for each brand below, we’ve noted which certifications they carry in their write-up. It’s also helpful to note that the brands that are certified by a third party are also more likely to use safer, more ethical processes throughout manufacturing and selling.
What is our review process?
Each brand on this list has been individually reviewed by one of our editors. Unlike other review sites, we bring these sheets, duvets, pillows, and more into our homes and sleep on them for months (sometimes years!) to see how they hold up and feel over time. Our top considerations are health and safety, comfort, environmental impact, durability, and long-term value. In addition to hands-on testing, we tour factories, investigate certifications, interview brands, scour online reviews, and survey our own readers for your preferences. We’ve got your back when it comes to finding the best organic bedding for your home.

6. Sijo
Best For | Hot sleepers
Organic Materials | OEKO-TEX certified materials, TENCEL™ Lyocell, French flax linen
Price for bedding bundle (Queen) | $165
Sijo knows that temperature regulation is one of the primary concerns for so many sleepers out there, so they make it easy to ditch the night sweats with their sustainable, Airyweight eucalyptus sheet sets. Made from the pulp of FSC & PEFC-certified eucalyptus wood, the TENCEL™ Lyocell sheets are cool, soft, and moisture-wicking by nature, not to mention eco-friendly, hypoallergenic, and naturally antimicrobial. We’ve snuggled up with Sijo and can vouch for their softness. The Tencel comforter manages to be both lightweight, soft, and also keeps us at that just-right temperature all night long.

Our Editor’s Review of Sijo
“Overall, I’ve got a big bedding crush on Sijo. The prices are more accessible than many other sustainable bedding brands, and the products are well-constructed and luxurious to the touch. I do see that there are a few items made using synthetic materials like polyester and nylon, which is the only drawback I’ve found so far. Just check the materials twice before ordering if you have a sensitivity to these types of fabrics!“

Our editors’ main criteria when shopping for organic bedding 🔎
What are the relevant certifications?
Third-party certified bedding brands add an extra layer of credibility when it comes to the safety of your new bedding products. These certifications can also indicate what sustainable and ethical processes are being followed throughout the production process. Below is a full list of certifications that we look for when it comes to sustainable and nontoxic bedding brands.
- 1% for the Planet: Brands that are members of 1% for the Planet donate 1% of annual sales to environmental causes, which is a bonus when we’re looking for sustainable bedding options.
- GOTS Certified: The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the gold standard for organic cotton and other textile components. Textile products must be made from 95% certified organic raw materials to become GOTS Certified. GOTS also requires stringent worker protections that ban exposure to toxic chemicals and child or forced labor. GOTS’ rigorous certification process requires their environmental and social criteria are met throughout the entire textile supply chain.
- MADE SAFE: MADE SAFE is a nontoxic certification for everyday products, including bedding. This certification is extremely stringent, and every product is heavily screened to validate that over 6,500 substances on the banned and restricted list have been avoided or constrained.
- GREENGUARD Certified: A GREENGUARD Certification means that your bedding meets some of the world’s most comprehensive standards for low emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into indoor air.
- OEKO-TEX Certified: OEKO-TEX is a consistent, independent testing and certification system that ensures every component in a bedding product is free from harmful substances (from raw materials to the final product).
- B Corporation: B Corporations meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. To become a B Corp, organizations must be verified through B Lab, a nonprofit dedicated to ensuring a fair and sustainable global economy.
- Climate Neutral Certified: Climate Neutral Certified brands measure and offset their entire carbon footprint and implement plans to reduce future emissions. While some companies claim to be carbon-negative by removing more carbon than they emit, it’s important to note that it is not an official certification.
- Fair Trade Certification: One of the most meticulous social standards, the Fair Trade certification means that the bedding materials are sourced ethically and workers are paid fair wages.
- PETA-Approved Vegan: The PETA-Approved Vegan certification assures shoppers that no animal products were used in the manufacturing process (such as wool). Many organizations offer other vegan certifications, too, like the Vegan Action certification. It’s best to review that the entire product is vegan and not just a handful of the components.
What are the best natural fabrics?
- Organic Cotton: Grown with no toxic pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, or genetically modified seeds. Tends to use less water than conventional cotton.
- Organic Linen: Made of fast-growing flax, organic linen uses no synthetic fertilizer or pesticides, requires little water, and produces little waste.
- Organic Hemp: Similar to linen, organic hemp uses little water and no synthetic fertilizer or pesticides, and is nice and durable.
- Wool: Biodegradable, durable, and renewable, wool is a great temperature regulator, too.
- Eucalyptus: Faster-growing eucalyptus trees are used to make Tencel, a semi-synthetic fabric that produces little waste and is still biodegradable.
- Bamboo: Bamboo is a fast-growing, regenerative crop that requires little or no fertilizer or pesticides.
