Summary: We tested Homebody’s five-seat modular sectional with recliners and an ottoman in a multi-generational family home, and it instantly became the heart of the house. Thoughtfully designed, sustainably made, and incredibly comfortable, it’s a true investment piece built for real life and decades of memories.

What I love about the Homebody couch:

  • Made for Families: The L-shape configuration we tested is generous and welcoming, perfect for movie nights, midday naps, and full-family gatherings. With the ottoman and recliners, it feels more like a lounge pit than a traditional sectional.
  • Fabric That Feels Luxe (and Lasts): The performance linen in Gloomy Day In is soft, textured, and surprisingly resilient. It looks elevated but handles everyday life with ease — kids, pets, snacks, and all.
  • Modular = Practical: Every piece clicks together easily, and the modular design means you can reconfigure or expand it over time. It’s great for evolving spaces and makes deep cleaning or rearranging less of a hassle.
  • Sustainable & Thoughtful: OEKO-TEX® certified, made with non-toxic materials, and built to last — this isn’t just another couch, it’s one you can feel good about bringing into your home.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Delivery Learning Curve: We went with white glove delivery, which was helpful, but the third-party team wasn’t familiar with the setup. It’s not hard to assemble, but expect a bit of a group effort and some patience if you go this route.
  • Definitely a Splurge: There’s no denying this is a high-ticket item. While the quality and comfort make it a worthwhile investment, it might not fit every budget. Thankfully, Homebody does offer financing through Shop Pay to help make the cost more manageable.

My parents still live in the ranch-style home where I grew up — a four-bedroom nestled in the mountains near Lake Tahoe. It’s the kind of place that holds a lifetime of memories, from childhood adventures to quiet evenings spent around the fire pit in the backyard. Sometimes I have to pinch myself that they still call it home. After spending years renting it out and moving away to Colorado, they made the decision to return a few years back and settle for good. That choice means everything — not just to them, but to me and my three siblings.

My sisters’ children have spent countless hours running across those worn hardwood floors, and now my own daughter will make memories in the same rooms — playing with her aunts and uncles and cousins, sitting with Nana and Papa in the kitchen, wandering the back patio, and helping in the garden. There’s something deeply comforting about that continuity: generations weaving their stories into the same spaces.

“Picture eight or more adults squeezed together on the living room couch — opening gifts, sharing stories, watching old family videos.”

The house is the perfect gathering place for family holidays, too. Picture eight or more adults squeezed together on the living room couch — opening gifts, sharing stories, watching old family videos. It’s always been cramped, but also cozy.

When Homebody offered to send us one of their L-shaped sectional sofas for review, I immediately thought of that house. Its size, comfort, and understated style seemed made for these kinds of moments. And knowing my mom — a woman who rarely invests in luxury for herself — it felt right to gift her this couch and share the experience. Together, we wanted to give readers an honest look at Homebody’s approach to thoughtful, family-friendly furniture that fits not just a room, but a life.

About Homebody

Homebody is a relatively new player in the furniture world, having launched in 2022. The team behind the brand comes from deep roots in the furniture industry, and they’ve put that expertise into making modular couches that feel modern but are built to last — think sofas and sectionals that don’t just look good but are comfortable, sustainable, and designed for everyday family life in mind. Every Homebody sofa is designed and assembled in the U.S., so they keep quality and craftsmanship close to home.

One of the things I love most about the brand, though, is how thoughtful they are with materials. Their fabrics are OEKO-TEX® certified, which means the couches are free of harmful chemicals — a big plus, especially with kids and babies — and all of the foams are CertiPUR-US®. The upholstery is made to be spill-proof and fully removable for easy cleaning, so you don’t have to stress about life’s little messes. Cushions use hypoallergenic down alternative fills, keeping things cozy and allergy-friendly. Sustainability is woven through their process, from non-toxic materials to modular designs that let you reconfigure or replace parts without tossing the whole thing.

Beyond materials and construction, Homebody also offers a solid warranty, which shows confidence in their products and gives buyers peace of mind. Their made-to-order options let you choose fabric, colors, and configurations that fit your space and style, so it’s not just another cookie-cutter couch. It’s furniture made for real homes, real families, and a more thoughtful way of living.

Homebody’s sofa options

Homebody’s collection is built for real life — flexible, thoughtful, and easy to make your own. They offer everything from snug two-seaters to roomy, family-friendly seven-seat sectionals in both L and U shapes (which my mom and I immediately gravitated toward).

“Homebody’s collection is built for real life — flexible, thoughtful, and easy to make your own.”

You can choose from six fabric colors in three performance options — linen, velvet, and a pet-friendly weave — all OEKO-TEX® certified for peace of mind. One of the standout features? Built-in reclining seats that are surprisingly sleek and recline to 155 degrees in Zero Gravity Wellness Mode™ for the ultimate restorative ritual!

And because every piece is modular, you can reconfigure, add on, or swap parts as your needs change, making it a smart, sustainable choice that can grow with your home.

Couch arrival day

We tested the 5-seat sectional with two recliners and an ottoman — an ideal setup for movie nights, midday naps, and sprawling family gatherings. Before placing the order, my mom requested fabric swatches (a must!) and we spent over an hour on FaceTime with my dad holding each swatch up in different corners of the living room to compare textures and lighting. In the end, they landed on Gloomy Day In, a moody, soft gray in Homebody’s performance linen — a color that felt both elevated and forgiving, and worked beautifully with the natural light in the house.

Shipping took a few weeks, which we expected (Homebody’s made-to-order model means you’ll wait a little, but they’re transparent about timelines). A delivery rep called my mom to schedule a drop-off date, which happened to line up with my baby shower weekend when most of our family was in town — a happy accident, since we had plenty of hands on deck.

“Homebody’s made-to-order model means you’ll wait a little, but they’re transparent about timelines.”

Homebody offers three delivery options — curbside, in-home, and white glove — and we went all-in with the white glove service. While it was nice having the couch brought in and placed, one thing to know is that Homebody doesn’t employ the delivery team, so they weren’t familiar with the setup process. We figured it out together — my mom, dad, and siblings with the instruction manual in hand, and me on FaceTime offering moral (and minor logistical) support. There were a few moments of collective confusion, but overall, the assembly was straightforward, just time-consuming due to the sheer size of the piece.

White glove delivery also includes the option to have packaging materials removed, which turned out to be a huge help. With a sectional this size, you’ll be swimming in cardboard and foam unless you opt for that extra step. If you’re not particularly attached to your box cutter, it’s absolutely worth it.

My first impressions

First impressions? Instant comfort. Within minutes of sitting down, my brother fell asleep in one of the recliners — fully horizontal, shoes off, out cold. It was honestly the best endorsement we could’ve asked for. The cushions are plush yet supportive, and the performance linen in Gloomy Day In looked even better in person than we imagined. The fabric has a subtle texture and depth that feels elevated without being fussy, and the color plays beautifully with the mountain light that filters through my parents’ living room.

The ottoman really pulled everything together — it felt like the anchor to the entire space and quickly became everyone’s favorite spot to prop up their feet. Naturally, this sparked a domino effect: my mom immediately wanted to update the TV setup, swap out the curtains, refresh the throw pillows, and (of course) find a new rug. We tested out Quince’s Lark Hand Loomed Rug for the space, and — chef’s kiss — it was precisely the soft, neutral complement the room needed.

A living room with a large gray sectional sofa, a round tray on an ottoman, several throw pillows, a light rug, a window with white curtains, and a ceiling fan.
Quince’s Lark Hand Loomed Rug pairs perfectly with this sofa and really ties everything together.

Because the new sectional arrived during a family weekend, we got to put it to the test right away. My parents hosted a big BBQ with over 20 adults in attendance, and the couch became command central. At one point, we had eight adults sprawled across the sectional (plus a very cuddly toddler), and no one felt cramped. Everyone had enough room to lounge comfortably, drinks in hand, deep in conversation.

“My parents hosted a big BBQ with over 20 adults in attendance, and the couch became command central.”

I especially love the L-shape configuration — it works perfectly for movie nights but also invites connection, letting everyone face inward and engage. The vibe was casual, cozy, and exactly what we hoped for: a piece that encourages gathering, conversation, and rest, all in one beautiful package.

Final thoughts: Is Homebody worth the price tag?

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room: the price. Homebody’s sectionals are far from cheap, and in this economy, the additional zeros on the price tag can make anyone’s head spin.

We were incredibly grateful to receive this couch for review, and I’ll be honest: if we hadn’t, I’m not sure we could’ve justified the cost ourselves. But now that it’s here, settled in my parents’ living room, used daily and already wrapped in a hundred new memories, I can say this with confidence — it’s an investment piece in the truest sense of the word, one sure to pay off in use and memories for years to come.

“It’s an investment piece in the truest sense of the word, one sure to pay off in use and memories for years to come.”

Homebody’s sectionals are built to last for decades, both in construction and design. The modular setup means it can evolve with your home, and the high-performance, OEKO-TEX® certified fabrics are made to withstand spills, pets, kids, and everything in between. Homebody also offers a warranty and flexible financing through Shop Pay, so if the upfront cost feels out of reach, there are options to space it out. Plus, the brand participates in all the big sales like Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Black Friday, so those may be worth waiting for.

We say this a lot when it comes to high-quality furniture, but this one truly lives up to it: this is the kind of couch that will hold conversations, naps, gifts, and generations.
